Director of Development and Facilities
Charles P. Sampey is the Director of Development and Facilities for Illinois Sports Facilities Authority (ISFA), the developer, owner and operator of U.S. Cellular Field. In this role, Sampey is responsible for implementing capital improvements to the ballpark and its surrounding property. Having practiced architecture and with nearly three decades of developmental and facilities management experience, Sampey is skilled in infrastructure design and implementation.
Prior to joining the Authority, Sampey served as the Director of Design and Construction for Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI), the world leader in developing, owning and managing merchandise marts, design centers, market buildings, trade and consumer shows. At Merchandise Mart, he managed more than $200 million in major projects for its Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. properties, including design, budgeting, city permitting, construction and asset protection.
Before his tenure at MMPI, Sampey worked as a self-employed licensed architect for both residential and commercial projects throughout the Chicago area. During this time, he was also a professor and guest lecturer at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).
Sampey holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from IIT and has earned credits toward an IIT graduate degree. Sampey is an American Institute of Architects (AIA) associate and is a member of the City of Chicago's Department of Buildings Advisory Committee and former member of the Codes Committee of the Washington, D.C.-based Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA). A motorcycle enthusiast, Sampey lives in downtown Chicago.
