Illinois Sports Facilities Authority To Host 4th Annual “Diamond In The Rough” Chess Tournament

The Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, developer, owner and operator of U.S. Cellular Field, will host the “Diamond in the Rough” chess tournament for the fourth consecutive year. The competition will feature more than 200 Chicago Public Schools students, aged 6 to 14, from 45 area schools participating in the Magnet Cluster Initiative. Participating CPS students will compete in five rounds of chess and will be separated into four divisions of play based on grade level. Approximately 100 games are expected to be played each round. The tournament is sponsored by the Chicago Public Schools, in partnership with Chess Education Partners, Inc. and ISFA.
