Illinois Sports Facilities Authority Hosts Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Series 2007

Tuesday, November 13, 2007

CHICAGO — More than 100 up and coming entrepreneurs from across the nation attended The Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Series (MUES) 2007 Business Plan Competition on November 10 at U.S. Cellular Field.  The event was hosted by the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority and the Chicago Urban League.

The one day seminar for aspiring African American and Hispanic entrepreneurs was a direct response to the needs of adults ages 21 and older seeking to achieve economic empowerment through entrepreneurship.  Dr. Randal Pinkett, winner of NBC’s “The Apprentice” with Donald Trump, provided the keynote address.  Key topics discussed ranged from marketing tips and current business trends to access to resources and organizations that can aid entrepreneurs toward maintenance of a successful business. The seminar helped prepare attendees for the regional and national business plan competitions, providing them with a competitive edge to thrive in today’s urban business world.

Since 1999, the award-winning Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Series has given hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs access to expert advice and the tools that they need to succeed in business.  MUES has partnered with several community-based organizations across the country, to offer this comprehensive business series, including the Chicago Urban League, a civil rights organization that empowers and inspires individuals to reach and exceed their economic potential.

The Illinois Sports Facilities Authority is the developer, owner and operator of U.S. Cellular Field, home of the World Champion Chicago White Sox.  ISFA also operates the U.S. Cellular Field Conference and Learning Center, a state-of-the-art facility for year-round use by nonprofit, corporate, civic and educational organizations.

ISFA is dedicated to furthering the mission of not-for-profits, particularly those organizations which focus on the education, health and welfare of area youth. We continue to annually donate use of the Conference & Learning Center, U.S. Cellular Field’s facilities and surrounding property, the Stadium Club, Scout Lounge and Diamond Suites to a wide variety of organizations and charitable entities that expand educational opportunities and athletic programming for thousands of Illinois youth.
